Strategic planning is a reflective process in which groups take stock of where they are and align around where they want to be. Organizations use different activities to create a strategy, set priorities, choose their scope, and focus energy and resources to make their desired future a reality.
David utilizes a comprehensive approach in which groups describe, study and evaluate the Current Reality for their organization. This requires understanding of where their strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities lie. The second stage is to look to the future and identify a unifying and elevating vision for the organization that is mindful of the tension between stretching beyond preconceived ideas and trying to attain totally unrealistic desires. This stage includes identifying common values and creating a succinct mission/purpose statement that answers the question, “why do we do what we do”? Once the future picture has been painted and aligned behind, the remaining work focuses on identifying goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities for getting from the Current Reality to the Desired Future State.
David manages this process so that organizational members can focus on the issues associated with their organization and have the important conversations they need to have. David holds group members accountable for working the process and communicating civilly in order to further develop team effectiveness while members envision their future together.
